Diversity & Inclusion Award Nomination Process

Annual Diversity and Inclusion Award

“We will all profit from a more diverse, inclusive society, understanding, accommodating, even celebrating our differences, while pulling together for the common good.”
~Ruth Bader Ginsburg

Each year the Wisconsin SHRM State Council recognizes an organization for their efforts and accomplishments in the areas of diversity and inclusion. The award, now named the Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging Award, is presented annually at the WI SHRM State Conference, held in October at the Kalahari Resort and Conference Center in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin.

What does the Wisconsin SHRM State Council Award Committee look for when selecting this annual award recipient? We seek to recognize a company or organization that demonstrates organizational achievements in diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, one that has been role model in their local community advancing diversity and inclusion efforts. In reviewing nominations, our Committee considers an organization’s

(1) diversity efforts, which refers to a workforce's physical, mental and emotional differences (a diverse workforce is one with a wide range of characteristics and lived experiences)
(2) equity work, which involves an organization’s intentional actions—policies, processes and procedures—that ensure all employees have the same opportunity to do their best work, and
(3) inclusivity, which refers to intentional behaviors that involve all employees in a meaningful way.

Though more challenging to articulate in a nomination, WI SHRM State Council seeks to recognize an organization that embraces the concept of belonging, an idea moves the conversation a step-forward ensuring employees feel safe, secure, and supported as they engage with the rest of the organization. True belonging means an employee may bring their authentic self to work, that their voice is heard, and they feel valued.

Is your company or organization a pioneer that leads innovative initiatives to make their workforce feel included, their voice heard, and that diverse backgrounds contribute to the organization’s competitive advantage? Self-nominate! Likewise, if you know of or work at a company or organization that is doing this important and critical work, with great story to tell, please submit or encourage others to submit a nomination for the 2024 WI SHRM Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging Award.

Nominations are due by Monday, August 26, 2024.
