District Directors

Position Description & Duties

 

Each District Director serves as a Council representative for a designated geographical area within Wisconsin. The District Director provides leadership and communication to further the Society’s goals and objectives between existing and future SHRM members and serves as the liaison for SHRM professional chapters.  District Directors assist chapters in understanding the national and state overall strategy.

RESPONSIBLE TO: State Director

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Attend all State Council meetings and actively participate in Council matters.
  2. Promote SHRM membership among practicing members of the human resource profession.
  3. Assists the council in the dissemination of information to Chapters providing timely and accurate responses to questions. Makes recommendations as warranted. 
  4. Work with chapter leaders to incorporate state and SHRM goals into local chapter activities.
  5. Promote and encourage local chapter understanding of and participation in the SHAPE program.
  6. Review and ensure necessary updates are made to Chapter leader positions at least twice a year on the state website.
  7. Assist in the planning for State Council conferences and events (i.e. State Leadership Conference, State Legislative Conference, Student Games, and Badger Bash etc.)
  8. Plans and facilitates annual District Director meeting with Chapters in District.
  9. Develops and facilitates two-way communications between local SHRM chapters and the state council. Maintains contact with assigned chapters and attends chapter meetings and local board meetings on a regular basis. Meet at a minimum twice a year with each Chapter President in the district.  One of those meetings should be at a Chapter meeting.
  10. Report to the State Council on a regular basis concerning chapter/member activities, accomplishments and opportunities within the district.
  11. Identify and assist in the development of new SHRM professional chapters through the affiliation of existing human resource organizations and other interested human resource groups.
  12. Identify individuals who demonstrate effective leadership roles within the district for potential leadership involvement on the council.
  13. Provides direction, assistance and support of professional development activities within the state and SHRM.
  14. Perform other duties as assigned by State Director.

Requirements:  Must be an SHRM member in good standing. SHRM certification highly desirable.

Term:

Serves a one-year term beginning the first day of January and ending the last day of December. Appointed by the state council director. May be reappointed for two additional one-year terms for a total service of three years.
