About the Role
At Van Holten’s Pickles, we take our people as seriously as our pickles. The Human Resources Generalist plays a hands-on role across a broad range of core HR functions, with a primary focus on supporting our union employees while also serving the entire Van Holten’s team. This bilingual (English/Spanish) pro collaborates closely with leadership and operations to manage recruiting and staffing, benefits, payroll, and employee relations—helping to build a workplace where people feel respected, supported, and proud to be part of the team.
Key Responsibilities
Recruiting, Onboarding & Staffing

Understand factory staffing needs and conduct recruiting, interviewing, and hiring

Create and manage internal and external job postings in coordination with hiring managers

Process new employee paperwork and create security access badges

Conduct new employee orientation and training
-
Coordinate production staffing with supervisors

Develop and maintain impactful employee onboarding and offboarding processes
Union Employee Relations & Support

Review union timesheets and process biweekly union payroll in Orbit/UKG Ready platform

Follow up with union employees regarding attendance issues
-
Enforce employee discipline in accordance with employee handbook and the union contract

Maintain union employee records including roster, seniority list, training and disciplinary

Support Director of Operations in communications with the union representative
HR Administration, Benefits & Compliance

Administer workers’ compensation claims and perform OSHA reporting
-
Process and track FMLA paperwork and usage
-
Support benefits administration and open enrollment in collaboration with the Controller
-
Help ensure compliance with employment and benefits laws and regulations
-
Maintain employee handbooks and recommend improvements to be made

Maintain company organizational chart and job descriptions

Collect and analyze HR data and make recommendations to management
Communication & Culture

Attend quarterly safety meetings as a member of the Safety Committee

Answer employee requests and questions on employment and benefits-related issues

Foster a respectful workplace environment by conducting investigations of conflicts or potential company policy violations

Provide written and verbal Spanish translation as needed

Lead employee engagement initiatives to enhance the workplace experience

Manage employee communications (e.g., TV slides, SMS messages, bulletin boards, other internal channels)

Stay informed on current HR trends and best practices

Perform other duties or projects as assigned to ensure HR operations run smoothly

Work Schedule , Conditions, & Physical Requirements

Standard Schedule: Monday through Thursday 8AM – 5PM, Friday 8AM – 4:30PM - ½ hour lunch
-
Two days per week are 9AM – 6PM for interaction with 2nd shift employees
-
One day per month is 12PM – 9PM for interaction with overnight shift employees

Most work will be performed in an office environment, with some presence in production areas

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer

Annual Salary: $68,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
