Do We Fully Experience Vacation?
By Bill Marklein, Founder of Employ Humanity
In my observation and a hard-to-accept reality, much of our workforce have healthy flexibility but unhealthy self-management. For example, not being able to unplug during vacation when everything is covered back at the office. This often stems from individual trust issues and can be a sign of micro-management. Train others to do their job, and yours. This will set you up nicely to recharge, unplug and let go! Great leaders create more leaders. They give people the tools and resources to be successful in their absence. Unfortunately, in an Employ Humanity survey of 2,780 professionals, only 45% said they feel they can be fully on vacation during vacation. How are we ever to recharge if we can’t on our own vacation?! We must have the same discipline that we have plugging in our phones with a low battery to unplugging from work responsibilities on weekends, vacations and beyond.
