Are You Leading With Empathy?
By Bill Marklein, Founder of Employ Humanity

A theme emerged at the recent Leadership Day @ Lambeau and that is the importance of leading with empathy. Empathy is the bridge to human connection. Empathy is the bridge to true understanding. All great leaders listen with empathy. Below are simple ways to improve listening and leading with empathy:

Select one or two to focus on this month…
  1. Full eye contact and presence (no technology)
  2. Pay attention to emotions
  3. Ask thoughtful questions
  4. Sometimes immediate advice is not needed
  5. “Tell me more about that…”
  6. “What I hear you saying…”
  7. Think of resources available
  8. Determine if the head or heart is needed (emotional intelligence)
  9. Be curious
 10. Embrace the pause
 11. Think of a relatable situation
 13. Be kind
