Letter from the State Director
I’m honored for the opportunity to serve the HR professionals of Wisconsin as your 2019 State Director for the Wisconsin State Council SHRM. I’d like to thank Joanne Krueger for all of her time, effort and guidance she has provided as the 2017-18 State Director and now Past State Director. Additionally, I’d like to thank and welcome our Council leaders – Jackie Peterson (State Director-Elect), Melanie Bruins (Secretary), Connie Bitter (Treasurer), Sheree Yates (Certification Director), Terleen Cheslock (College Relations Director), Kyra Matkovich (Communications Director), Matt Bucher (Conference Liaison Director), Alvin Hill (Diversity, Inclusion, Workflex Director), Jennifer Zahari (Foundation Director), Jeff Palkowski (Governmental Affairs Director), Rachael Brady (Leadership Director), Debbie Fedel (Membership Director), Lisa Henke (Partnership & Sponsorship Director), Mary Vogl-Rauscher (Programming Director), Timothy Strait (Worforce Readiness Director), Kelsie Beckfield (District Director – Northwest), Jennifer Jirsa (District Director – Southwest), Chris Berg (District Director – Southeast), Karen Sinette (District Director – Northeast), and Jay Stephany (District Director – Northcentral). I look forward to working with all of you.
We have several great events planned for 2019. In February is our 5th Annual Day on the Hill in Madison. This event provides a unique opportunity for a day of legislative insight and networking with legislators and registration is open. In March, we move up to UWEC for the Student Conference and HR Games Competition. This event brings together student throughout the state to test their HR knowledge and network. We are looking for professional chapter and at-large members to assist in volunteer roles for the competition part of the event. The Leadership Conference will be August 1-2 in Manitowoc. If you are a volunteer with a Wisconsin SHRM Chapter, state council or student chapter (or will be), this conference opportunity is just for you! This event offers you leadership strategies that will strengthen your chapter, council or student group and present valuable networking opportunities for chapter leaders from across the state. In October, the State Conference is at the Kalahari Resort in the Wisconsin Dells. Our theme, HR Trailblazers – Riding the Winds of Changes, coincides with a move to larger conference space. Registration for this event will begin in June. For more details on all of the events, visit our website www.wishrm.org.
As a State Council, we strive to facilitate connections between chapter leaders, state council leaders, at-large members in the state, and the SHRM Board of Directors. We pursue opportunities to develop our volunteer leaders, grow membership within chapters and the state, coordinate legislative and advocacy initiatives, promote diversity and inclusion, provide programing and networking opportunities, and provide financial support to chapters.
Lastly, I’d like to thank all of the volunteers around the state. WISHRM and I appreciate your willingness to share your time, experience, and knowledge with your HR colleagues.
