• Position Description & Duties
The Legislative Director is responsible for coordinating the state Legislative Conferences, and facilitates the selection process for the State Legislative Partner.
The Governmental Affairs Director monitors and evaluates, on a continuing basis, pending federal, state, and local legislative, regulatory, and legal activities that may have an impact on the management of human resources.  This Director is also responsible for communicating accurate and timely legislative information enabling members to assess the importance of the proposed legislation.  The Director works in close cooperation with the SHRM Government Affairs headquarters staff along with the State Council in carrying out these tasks. 
RESPONSIBLE TO:  State Director
  1. Attend all State Council meetings and actively participate in Council matters.
  2. Plan and coordinate at least annual State Legislative Conferences.
  3. Facilitate the annual process for the selection of the local chapter co-sponsors of the Legislative Conferences.
  4. Work with the Legislative Conference chapter co-sponsors to manage specific functions related to the Legislative Conference.
  5. Oversee the development and monitoring of Legislative Conferences budget.
  6. Facilitate annual selection process for State Legislative Partner.  Serve as primary contact for Legislative partner ensuring monthly articles are submitted and partnership needs are met.
  7. Serves as back-up to the Governmental Affairs State Director
  8. Perform other duties as assigned by State Director.
National SHRM membership in good standing required. HRCI certification preferred.
Serves a one-year term beginning with the first day of January ending the last day of December. Appointed by the state council director.  May be reappointed for two additional one-year terms for a total service of three years.

Bob is a senior-level human resource professional with more than 17 years progressive experience. He received his B.S. in Industrial Technology Management – Safety from the University of Wisconsin – Platteville and has studied at Cornell University receiving a certificate in Labor Relations.

Bob’s professional career has most recently been with Bemis Company as Director of Human Resources and with the Hoffmaster Group, Inc serving in leadership roles in both human resources and environmental, health and safety.

Bob is involved with his local church, Christ the Rock, and in the community serving on the Talent Development Committee of The New North, Inc and serving as volunteer for Meals on Wheels of the Fox Valley. He is also a member of the Fox Valley SHRM organization, and has been a member of SHRM for several years. Recently, he has also served on the Boards of Directors for Junior Achievement of the Wabash Valley, Indiana University’s Kelly Executive Partners, the Pulp and Paper Manufacturers Association, and the Wisconsin Council of Safety. Bob is a husband and father of two teenage children and has recently moved back to the Fox Cities.
