2011 State SHRM Legislative Conference Wrap Up
The Wisconsin SHRM Legislative Conferences were expanded to three locations in 2011. They were held in Madison, Oshkosh and La Crosse over the last few months during a very unique and changing political climate. The conferences provided HR professionals an ideal forum to network with each other and engage with a variety of topic matter experts. Our WISHRM Legal Partner, Krukowski and Costello, presented important information on current legislative topics at all three conferences. At the Oshkosh conference, attendees also had the privilege of hearing from Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development (DWD) Secretary Manny Perez. Sec. Perez talked about how his department wants to create synergies with WISHRM and develop the nation’s leading workforce development agency. 

Attendance at the conferences totaled 142, slightly more than last year.  The conferences would not have been possible without the volunteer efforts of GMA SHRM, LASHRM and Oshkosh Area SHRM chapter volunteers. We will continue to review the three conference format to ensure that it is an efficient and effective manner in which to meet the legislative needs of HR professionals across Wisconsin for 2012.

HRCI Certification Credits
Due to the unique and changing legislative climate at the time of our 2011 WI SHRM State Legislative conferences, speakers were changing up until the start of the conferences.  With the last minute changes, we were unable to obtain pre-approval for the conferences from HRCI to provide an ID.  We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause attendees.
 
However, attendees can still submit for general HRCI credit for attending the program.  HRCI does not require pre-approval.  In fact, they indicate that many programs submitted for recertification credit do not come in with a pre-approved ID number.  Credit is awarded for programs supporting the HR body of knowledge.  The programs at the legislative conferences should apply.
 
To find the number of recertification credit hours for each program, count only the educational time spent. Do not include registration, meals or breaks which are the non-educational parts of the conference. Recertification credit hours are calculated to the nearest quarter hour. For example, if the legislative conference includes five hours and 30 minutes of actual educational time, the number of recertification credit hours awarded would be 5.50.
 
Once attendees login to enter their credits, the title of the program, date and the organization hosting (WI State SHRM State Council)  will be requested along with the amount of credit hours.
