2008 WI State SHRM Leadership Conference Programming Highlights & Speakers

The following is an overview of the presentations that were apart of the conference.   You will find powerpoint presentations and also a section on best practice suggestions.

Diversity – The Magic Behind Successful Organizations

Milton J. Perkins, SPHR

Many organizations and individuals feel diversity deals primarily with external differences - age, gender, race, and color.  However, true diversity is about the 'otherness' one possesses.  This 'otherness' is a result of one's acculturation, that is, their cultural and group experiences as they journey through life.  The experiences one has, and the resulting 'otherness', impacts perspective, and perspective impacts motivations and motivation impacts behavior.  To that end, if you understand and appreciate a person's 'otherness', you have a greater opportunity to engage them where needed and drive for successful outcomes.  High performance organizations proactively seek out and tap into that 'otherness' in mutually beneficial ways.  Join Milton J. Perkins, SPHR, as he uncovers the nuances of 'otherness' and discusses how organizations, even chapters, can seek out and tap into it for the benefit of individuals, the chapter, and the profession.  - Best Practice Suggestions
