Chapter President Reimbursement

Expenses covered by National SHRM are detailed on the national SHRM webpage for National Leadership.

In addition, State Chapters that participate in 80% of State Council meetings each year, will be eligible for reimbursement to their chapter up to $300 for attendance at the National Leadership Conference for that year. This is counted on a rolling calendar basis, counting back 1 year from last the Wisconsin State SHRM Council meeting prior to the National Leadership conference. This will be paid for the Chapter President or their designate to attend. Submit a reimbursement request form (available on the website) along with receipts up to $300, to the Council for approval before December 31st. Reimbursement is paid from the Wisconsin Council SHRM to the chapter and not an individual.

RSVP Needed!

If you are planning to attend the SHRM National Leadership Conference please RSVP to Morgan Data at wishrm@morgandata.com with your name, chapter name, cell phone number, flight information and if you will be attending the WI Council Dinner described below. For the dinner, core council members and 1 representative from each chapter will be covered as described below. Any additional chapter members are welcome to attend, but will need to cover their own meal costs for the Thursday dinner. If you are looking for a roommate to share hotel costs, please let Morgan Data know and they can connect those interested.

Sessions

Since costs for attendance and travel are covered it is expected that you attend the majority of applicable sessions as you can if your travel schedule allows for it. Cost reimbursement must fall within your council budget. The amount approved by the council is a flat amount so any costs you incur over will be at your expense. Exceptions to this must be pre-approved by the Council Director. You can submit for related expenses such as hotel expenses, airlines, parking fees, out of pocket food expenses (i.e. Thursday lunch) and hotel fees. These need to be submitted by the end of the calendar year so they are accounted for on the correct budget year. You may submit them if you incur them before the conference to get reimbursement if applicable (i.e. after you book your flight). Enjoy!

Hotel

Hotel and travel information can be found at the National SHRM link above. If the primary hotel, the Crystal Gateway Marriott is booked, use the secondary hotel, Crystal City Marriott as there is an underground walkway connecting the 2 hotels. Then you do not need to walk outside to get to the primary hotel. The Sheraton Crystal City is a very close walk outside to get to the primary hotel.

Airlines

Whatever airline you fly, understand that the best airport to fly into is DCA (Reagan). This is because the primary hotels have a free shuttle to and from the DCA airport for no charge. Once you get any checked bags, go outside and stand in the hotel shuttle stop bench. They come about every 15 minutes in a small van with the hotel logo on the side. They operate from approximately 6 am – 11 pm., but clarify with your hotel for exact times.   The airport is very close so the van ride is only about 15 minutes. If you come into either of the other airports, which are not recommended, the cab ride to the hotel can be pricy.

SHRM Headquarters

Be aware that the SHRM bus to headquarters will not be offered this year.   The metro will be the recommended mode of transportation to the SHRM Headquarters. The metro station connects to the hotels.  Check at the information desk right away to see if SHRM is again giving out free metro passes.

Thursday Night November 18th Council Dinner

The Wisconsin dinner on Thursday night is paid for by the council for WI State Council Members only (i.e. Core Council members and one representative from each Chapter typically the President or President-Elect). Other Wisconsin attendees from chapters and guests are absolutely welcome to attend but must cover their own meal costs. The location for 2010 is McCormick & Schmick’s. Dinner is planned to start at 8:00 pm. This is within walking distance from the hotel.

McCormick & Schmick's - Crystal City is located at:

2010-B Crystal Drive
Arlington, VA 22202
Phone: 703.413.6400

Networking

If there is a specific location for the WI region to sit in the grand ballroom for all attendee meals and sessions, typically Wisconsin attendees will sit in this area. If there is not a specified area Wisconsin attendees will typically try to sit on the far left side of the room (look at the stage in the middle, then go to the left side of the room).

Capital Hill Visit

Please see the schedule of events for the leadership conference which includes this exciting opportunity for a Capital Hill Visit. Past attendees rated this as a really great event. Hill-goers will have the opportunity to discuss HR issues with the legislators. If you sign up to attend, information will be sent to you in advance to brief you on the current legislative issues to prepare you for your hill visit. Anthony Dix, District Director, has attended this in the past and can answer additional questions based on his past experience. Anthony.dix@UWMF.WISC.EDU
